March 15, 2017 Note From The Lieutenancy

Sending this note to let you know that the 40 pilgrims who set out on a life-changing journey In the Footsteps of Jesus, landed safely in Boston this morning about 7:30 am.  I think it is fair to say that after a few hours of waiting in Tel Aviv at the Ben Gurion Airport, followed by the 12+ hours we were airborne, most were looking forward to getting back to their homes and back into their own beds tonight.  We returned a day later than originally planned, as our flight home scheduled for 12:05 am on Tuesday, March 14 (Jerusalem time) was canceled due to the snow and high winds that battered New England.  We had already checked out of our hotel in Jerusalem when we found ourselves in quite a predicament as the flight had been canceled but the Notre Dame Guest House was booked!  Alas, with no room in the Inn, we were forced to leave that area and head for Bethlehem where we found shelter.  (Sound familiar?)  After a good night’s rest, we were able to spend a little more time in Bethlehem on our own revisiting the Church of the Nativity, before having lunch at the Franciscan Pilgrim House (Casa Nova) and making a stop at Shepherds’ Field, before leaving Bethlehem and heading for Tel Aviv where we ended our day just about sunset.

In any event, we’re back, and since I was able to spend today plowing through most of the paperwork that had accumulated at the office in my absence, hopefully in the next few days I will be able to share with you some of our experiences along with a few of my photos, beginning with the attached picture that I took about 5:45 am on Day 2 in Tiberius.
